Mounted Warfare Museum Could Break Ground Next Year
Organizers of a proposed Mounted Warfare Museum on Fort Hood say they've nearing their funding goal and could break ground as early as spring of 2018.
National Mounted Warfare Foundation Vice President Bob Crouch told KCEN-TV that project organizers have raised $26 million of their $37 million goal thanks to both private donors and funding from the federal government.
Retired Lieutenant General Paul Funk, President and CEO of the National Mounted Warfare Foundation, told KCEN the museum would focus primarily on soldiers and their families, telling the stories of the people who've done the fighting and dying and their loved ones.
The NMWF plans to build the museum between the Fort Hood Visitors Center and the 1st Cavalry Division horse stables, KCEN reported. It could open as soon as 2020.
