Centex Man Found Dead in Car

KWTX's John Carroll reported that Mexia authorities were investigating reports of gunfire near a Walmart Supercenter on U.S. Highway 84 on Thursday. Authorities found a 37-year-old man dead in a vehicle in a field with a gunshot wound.

The man was behind the wheel in the vehicle, and AR pistol was found in the vehicle with the man as well.

A witness at the scene told authorities he heard a gunshot as he was leaving from the Walmart. The man told officers it came from inside the vehicle, which was halted at a red light on Highway 84.

The car accelerated through the light, and ran off of the road. Mexia Police Chief Brian Bell said, "The case is only being investigated as a suicide, there are no other indications to take our investigation elsewhere."
