Central Texas Community Mourns Educator’s Death After COVID-19 Fight
The numbers keep rising, as yet another educator in Central Texas has passed away following a battle with COVID-19.
According to a report from our news partners at KWTX, Angela Thompson, an instructional aide at the Connally Primary Campus succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday, September 14.
A District Struck By Grief
Thompson's passing marks the third death within Connally Independent School district this school year.
The deaths of David “Andy” McCormick, 49, and Natalia Chansler, 41, who were both social studies teachers at Connally Junior High School, are still fresh within the community's hearts.
Even after the temporary closure of all school campuses within Connally ISD, safety concerns are still prominent.
“With the loss of a third team member, we know that concerns for physical and mental health are heightened. We want to assure you that we remain focused on measures to take care of our students and staff,” Connally ISD wrote in a press release.
Gone Too Soon
Thompson was only 32 at the time of her passing. Tragically, her birthday fell the day after her death. Thompson's family chose to honor her life by having a balloon release.
Not Alone
While Connally appears to be the school district suffering the most losses of beloved educators, they are certainly not alone. Lisa Austin, who was a first year teacher for Belton ISD, also succumbed to her battle with COVID-19 this school year.
Appreciation and Respect
I urge the community to remain vigilant as we process our way through this pandemic. Please remember to be kind, and to thank those who are sacrificing their health to keep our world turning, even in the face of such uncertainty.
