Central Texas Schools Receive Their Grades
School's about to begin, and the first grades issued are to the schools themselves.
Report cards have been issued to school districts across the state. A couple of Central Texas schools took home an "A".
KWTX reports that Midway, Lorena, China Spring, and Goldthwaite ISDs earned an "A". Belton and Copperas Cove ISDs took home a "B", while Killeen, Temple, and Waco landed in the "C" category.
Waco did see some improvement, though. 4 of the 5 schools that were struggling and facing closure because of poor performance met state standards.

Some educators have objected to this letter grade system for districts, arguing that the grades only take into account performance on standardized state tests such as the STAAR exam. They say the letter grades simplify complex data and may be misleading to parents.
However, as the Texas Tribune reports, state officials say the letter grades offer unprecedented transparency, and they plan to publish a website where the information will be easily accessible by parents.
