Copperas Cove Police Say Young Mom Left Baby in Car Outside Bar
How was your weekend? If it didn't involve leaving your baby asleep in a running car while you knocked back shots, then getting into a fight with officers, you did better than police say this Copperas Cove woman did.
26-year-old Samantha Grace Vaughan smiled for her mugshot, but I don't know if I'd be grinning if faced these charges. Records indicate she's charged with abandoning and endangering a child with intent to return, terroristic threats against a public servant, and resisting arrest.
How did it come to this?
Christopher Shadrock with our partners at News 10 reports that police were called to the Trackside Night Club at 301 Joe's Road around 1:45 AM Sunday, where they found Vaughan's baby lying asleep in a safety seat in the back of her car. The vehicle was reportedly running with the doors unlocked.
When police found Vaughan inside the bar, they asked if she'd had anything to drink, she said she'd gone in to find her husband and had joined him for two shots.
When police tried to detain her, she reportedly yelled, "You will not take my child and place her with a f****** n*****" (according to an affidavit). Police say she ended up on the floor while resisting, where she thrashed about and made threatening statements. She reportedly beat her head against a metal bar inside the arresting officer's car while en route to jail, causing an injury to her head.
Yikes.
When her blood was tested, she was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.148 - well above the legal limit of 0.08.
So, hopefully your weekend was happier and more restful than Vaughan's - especially if you have kids.
