An open letter to our "leader", Governor Greg Abbott.

Dear Governor Abbott,

The 87th legislative session was by far the most conservative it's been years. You spent your time and energy on bills that restrict women's body autonomy. Today you penned your signature on HB 1280, a bill that creates civil penalties and criminal penalties for those who commit the "offense" of abortion and awards them a felony of the second degree, except that the offense is a felony of the first degree if an unborn child dies as a result of the "offense."

Today you also signed HB 3979, which seeks to warp our perception of history by not allowing educators to analyze how racism has impacted politics, culture, and society in the United States - AKA critical race theory (CRT).

In the wake of gun violence you've laughed in our faces by signing HB 1927, which eliminates the requirement for Texas residents to obtain a license to carry handguns if they’re not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a gun.

All the while, your constituents pay the price. The Texas power grid is on the brink of failure, again! Did you do anything to end the outages and blackouts? Did you try to end the war on drugs? Did you promote education or safe sex? Gun safety?

Nope. You've decided that what's most important for Texans right now is a wall for our southern border. A wall. The state's approved $250 million for immediate construction, and somehow we're now footing the bill with the state's revenue and taxes. The state budget allocated 1.1 billion dollars towards border security — a record for the State of Texas. The country is laughing at us as you plead for donations.

Thanks for nothing per usual. I can't wait for the 2022 Texas gubernatorial election. I hope you discover your faults come Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

Signed,

A fed up Texan
