Former Temple Wildcat Named Our Hometown Hero
Every month Townsquare Media picks a leader nominated by a member of the local community to be recognized as a Hometown Hero. This month, we're proud to announce Tony Garza, a born and raised Temple Wildcat who has dedicated his life to serving the community and his family, even if that means working and going to school 7 days a week as well as being a member of the Texas National Guard.
Let's quickly break down what Garza does on a typical week:
He is a full-time student at the Fire Academy at McLennan Community College in Waco, he is training to be a firefighter and once he graduates the academy he will move on to emt/paramedic training. After school is out at 5 p.m., Garza goes to his job and never comes home before 10 p.m. On the the rare weekend off a month, Garza is off to serve with the Texas National Guard.
Sheeesh. I'm exhausted from just writing that!
I asked Garza why he fills his dance card to the brim. He answered:
"I want to do what I can for my community - whether it's my city or the USA," said the father of three. "I also want to create better opportunities for my family. I want to give my kids the life they deserve."
Garza graduates to firefighter status in December so don't worry, Harker Heights and Killeen. You're in good hands.
Teleperformance and Townsquare Media are proud to recognize this man as a Hometown Hero and present him with the Hometown Hero certificate of appreciation and a $50 gift card to Pignetti’s Italian Restaurant.
