As of September 1st, over 800 new laws kicked in for Texas. One means more legal marijuana usage for Texans while another means nothing to, (native), Texans.

Others affect only certain Texans like those with school age kids or who want access to the Texas medical marijuana program. Some, of course, will definitely affect us all.

We'll be here all day if I get into each of the over 800 new laws kicking in so, we'll just look at a few of them - pot, school, "trannies" and a real estate law not aimed at Texans.

We'll start with that last one ...

Which New Law Doesn't Matter To Native Texans?

That's the one that has to do with real estate and property. Senate Bill 17 bans governments, companies and individuals who legally reside in China, North Korea, Russia and Iran from owning land and properties in Texas. (trexastribune)

This does NOT apply to U.S. citizens or permanent residents although the 'Gov does have the authority to expand the "no buy" list of countries/entities at will.

What About Medical Marijuana?

On the up side, getting into the lone star states medical marijuana program just got a little easier. House Bill 46 opens the medical mota door to those with chronic pain, traumatic brain injury and Crohn's disease. It also allows doctors to prescribe "vapes".

Meanwhile, the Texas Legislature is still trying to figure out whether or not they want to ban all THC vapes, gummies, oils, etc containing any level of any "hemp-derived" THC.

What About School?

This category is a busy one that includes:

  • Senate Bill 13 gives parents and school boards a lot more say in what students can access in public school libraries.
  • Senate Bill 10 not only allows but requires that the Ten Commandments be displayed in public school classrooms and sets minimum size requirements for them. 16 x 20 inches, minimum.
  • Senate Bill 2 creates a huge school voucher program that allows parents up to $10K per year to pay for private school. Handicapped students could get up to $30K. Rich folks can use these vouchers too.

Trans Genders?

Basically, we're back down to 2 genders. House Bill 229 will define a man and a woman based on their biological reproductive systems and that status will hold firm across the board. If you have man parts, you're a guy. If you have lady bits, you're a gal. Period.
