Drivers in Texas better slow down as the cops are paying extra, EXTRA attention to speeders and writing as many tickets for those violations as they possibly can.

Operation Slow Down Or Pay Up is still being conducted by the Texas Department of Transportation and the law's not playing around. They want everyone aware of the danger that speeding, even by just a little, brings.

Speeding caused 160,000 accidents last year. Of those, 1,467 people were killed and another 5,921 were seriously injured in Texas. TXDoT has a few tips to help you avoid a speeding ticket.

  •  Match your speed to road conditions.
  • Slow down and allow for more distance to stop when traffic is heavy, roads are slick or road construction is ahead.
  • Watch for road signs alerting you of reduced speed limits.
  • Remember that traffic fines double if you speed in a school zone or a work zone when workers are present. - TXDoT

Other Speeding Consequences

On top of the fines the city and/or state will hit you with, speeding tickets send insurance rates up and repeat offenders can wind up losing their driver license completely. Ain't nobody got time 'fer 'dat.

Speeding tickets are easily avoidable, just don't do it. Leave a little earlier and, if you are running late, just be late. Call the boss or bae or whoever, explain you're running late an drive like a normal person.
