Judy Morales Wins Temple District 2 Special Election

Temple District 2 residents voted Saturday to reinstate city council member Judy Morales, who resigned from the council in March. Morales received 109 votes out of a total of 173 cast. She will officially resume her place on the council during a special meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Cynthia Arriaga came in second with a total of 53 votes. James Dean Zeptner finished third with 7 votes, and Gregory Wise received 3.

Morales resigned from the council in March before pleading no contest in April to a misdemeanor charge of destroying or altering a public document. The charge stemmed from an investigation into allegations that Morales instructed an employee at the Temple HELP Center to delete emails and documents linking her to the illegal use of county equipment and personnel during her 2011 city council campaign.
