Over 20 volunteers got together to build a Killeen resident a 32-foot handicap-accessible ramp, and have pledged to do the same each month for residents in need. The hard work of good people from groups like the Killeen Heights Rotary Club, Killeen United Methodist Church, Salado United Methodist Church, the Texas Wheelchair Ramp Project and the Rotaract Chapter of Central Texas College is helping to improve the life of Killeen residents one person at a time.

Killeen Heights Rotary President Larry Phelps said:

While we are also working with other organizations this year, such as the homeless shelter, free health clinic and food care center, it's always nice to have a project that yields immediate results. Although we raise funds for our projects at our annual May crawfish boil, families of ramp recipients may also contribute funds.

The ramp built this past weekend was for a man named Guadalupe Garcia. Mr. Garcia lives at home with his wife and daughter, and recently his battle with diabetes cost him a foot. His family had to lift him up and down the steps of his home each time he wanted to leave the house. So, this great group of folks got together to provide the ramp so he can more easily get around with his walker and wheelchair.

This great group of central Texan's who helped this family can be found on the facebook page "Killeen Heights Rotary".
