Killeen Mom Orders Son to Do Push Ups for Bad Behavior
A photo of a Killeen mom's military style discipline has taken Facebook by storm.
The photo, uploaded by Fort Hood resident Molly Wooden on February 22, shows Nicki Quinn standing over her son as he does push ups in the bathroom of the Hobby Lobby on East CenTex Expressway.
Wooden writes that she overheard Quinn's son say, "Mama, this is the bathroom floor. Gross!" Quinn responded, "Maybe you shouldn't have been acting obnoxious. They have soap for a reason. Ten more."
Wooden went on to write that she's been in touch with Quinn, and the two are " hoping to grab coffee sometime...while supervising push ups that is".
At the time of this article's publication, the post had been shared over 32,000 times. The majority of comments were supportive of Quinn's parenting.
I reached out to Wooden via Facebook to see if she could tell me a little more. She wrote:
First, “strong parenting” is huge for me...but you rarely see it being implemented. So when I finally saw it with my own two eyes, let alone in public, I felt strongly compelled to capture that moment! I knew many of my family members on social media would approve of her tactics so I decided to post it, not realized just how many times it would be shared.
I’ve already apologized to her for taking the photo in a “private place” but she has assured me that she’s thankful I posted it, and is grateful for the outpouring of positive reassurance that has come from it.
I totally agree with Wooden. A parent's job is to raise a virtuous kid who understands that actions have consequences, and having your kid do some push ups when they're acting up seems like a good way to accomplish that. Hey, it beats a paddlin' if you ask me. (Lord knows I got plenty of those as a kid!)
I see so many disinterested parents letting their kids run wild around stores. This mom clearly isn't one of those parents.
What do you think? Is this an acceptable punishment for a child who's misbehaving? Let us know in the comments.
