Killeen Police Officer Accused Of Horrific Crime Against A Child
I’ve always wondered what the thought process is of people who sexually assault young children.
Is it that they can’t find anyone their age to date? Are they just drawn to people who are easy to manipulate or subdue, or what?
Whatever their twisted thinking, it’s quite sickening!
That’s exactly the reaction I had when I found out about the Killeen Police Officer who has just been placed on administrative leave after he was charged with sexually assaulting a child.
KWTX reports that Miguel Velasco Herrera was charged with sexual assault of a child younger than 17.
This is the result of an investigation that began over two weeks ago.
Before posting a $100,000 bond and being released, Herrara, a member of the Killeen Police Department for 7 years, turned himself in.
The fact that it's a police officer being accused of this crime is sad, especially when police are supposed to serve and protect us and departments are really trying to rebuild trust with their communities.
There's been no word on whether the victim is a family member of Herrara's. Preying upon a child is awful enough, but it's just heartbreaking to know there are people out there who prey upon their own flesh and blood.
We will keep you updated.
Meanwhile, if you know of or suspect abuse of a child, please reach out to police or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
