Killeen Police Searching for Suspected Car Thief
Killeen police are searching for a man suspected of stealing a car and leading a Harker Heights officer on a chase.
KPD spokesperson Carrroll Smith said Thursday that officers responded to a call about a stolen vehicle in the 3700 block of Appalachian Trail around 11:30 PM on December 22. The victim told officers a black 2012 Ford Explorer was taken from their driveway.
On Friday, December 23, a Harker Heights police officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle evaded the officer, who found the SUV abandoned and still running in a parking lot in the 1500 block of East Veterans Memorial Boulevard a short time later. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner.
Smith said the officer saw three men fleeing from the vehicle, but police have only released a surveillance still of this passenger.
If you recognize the suspect in the photo above or know anything about the crime, please contact Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-8477, bellcountycrimestoppers.com, or via the P3Tips mobile app. Crime Stoppers will not ask your name, and information leading to an arrest could net a cash reward of up to $1,000.
