With the pandemic of COVID-19, many High School seniors will not have the opportunity to walk across the stage in front of all their friends and family, but maybe Gatesville ISD seniors will have something even more special.

According to our news partners at KWTX, the Gatesville Independent School District and the Last Drive-In Picture show have teamed up to give graduating seniors a night to remember.

A virtual graduation will be filmed featuring all graduating Seniors and even will feature the usual speeches and awards. How? Well, with just a little movie magic!

Seniors will be recorded walking in cap and gown across a stage at Gatesville’s McKamie Stadium, where a family member will present them with their diploma. Each student has been given an appointed time to arrive, so social distancing is still being practiced. All guest speakers are also recording themselves and will submit their video for the movie. Once all the clips are edited, the virtual graduation will be ready for the big screen.

A screening of the virtual graduation is scheduled for July 24, 8:30 PM, at the Last Drive-in Picture Show, in Gatesville. Graduating seniors will have received a pass that will allow one carload of people to enter the drive-in for the virtual graduation.

Don't forget you can also nominate a high school graduating senior for a $1,000 scholarship! Townsquare Media is teaming up with Smile at the World Orthodontics and Claude Allen House Leveling to help shine a spotlight on the Class of 2020 with Senior Salutes as well.
