Local Hospital Cuts Patients Bills In Half, But There’s a Catch
Patients at a local hospital may have their medical bills cut in half, but there's a catch: the bill has to be paid all at once before Sept. 1.
Our partners at News 10 report that Baylor Scott & White is offering patients a 50% discount on medical bills if paid in full by that date.
In statement, administrators wrote, "As part of our commitment to serve the community and provide quality medical care to all of our patients, Baylor Scott & White has made several changes to our normal billing and collection practices during the COVID-19 crisis."
They also wanted to clarify that the discounted offer is only for preexisting bills and will not apply to co-pays or future visits. Also, not everyone will qualify. If you have an outstanding bill with the hospital, you'll need to call them to work out the details.
I think this a good thing - that is, if someone is able to come up with a lump sum of money to pay off the debt. Hopefully this will benefit many patients and they can be free of their medical bills. That for sure can be a real burden, especially during this time that we are in.
