I’m Lynn Woolley with your Logic Minute for 4/10/13

The Plano School District’s Board of Trustees just extended the
contract of School Superintendent Richard Matkin -- by a year -- and
now they have to look at adjusting his salary to match. Matkin is one
of those school officials struggling to make ends meet for his
district in the face of state funding cuts. But Matkin himself has no
worries. Matkin pulls in 277-thousand dollars, plus a 1-thousand
dollar-per-month car allowance.  That’s a total of 289-thousand
dollars a year – and there are many more perks we don’t know about.
That salary seems ridiculous in an era of failing schools – but even
so, Matkin’s take is going up—AND, he’s inoculated against being fired
through 2016.   It would take the Gross Domestic Product of a small
country to buy out his contract.  So our schools are failing,
underfunded, and we need more teachers.  But we spend our money
allowing superintendents to live like kings.
