Mexico Pledges Help to Texas After Hurricane Harvey

Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs said Sunday that he has spoken with Texas Governor Greg Abbott about ways his country can help in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Secretary Luis Videgaray Caso took to Twitter to announce his nation's intention to "provide all the help [it] can."

The Hill reports that other Mexican officials have pledged aid from our southern neighbor as well, including Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, the Mexican consul general in Austin.

"As we have done in the past, Mexico stands with Texas in this difficult moment," The Hill quotes Gutierrez.

Here at home, the legendary Cajun Navy has deployed boats to rescue and provide aid to residents across flood-affected areas. National Guard and Coast Guard operations are underway as well.

According to the Washington Post, former Mexican President Vicente Fox worked with Former U.S. President George W. Bush after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, sending an army convoy and a naval vessel carrying supplies. It was the first time Mexican troops had set foot on American soil since 1846, and Mexican aid workers delivered 170,000 meals, distributed more than 184,00 tons of supplies, and provided over 500 medical consultations over a three-week period.
