Another day, another shooting in Killeen.

A 45-year-old mother and her 5-year-old daughter were both rushed to separate hospitals following a drive-by shooting in the 3400 block of Barcelona Drive in Killeen on Sunday.

FOX44 News reports that Killeen Police were called to the scene Sunday night after shots were fired. Upon arrival, KPD found both a 45-year-old woman and her 5-year-old daughter had been victims of a drive by shooting.

The woman was transported to Baylor Scott & White, while the child was taken to McLane’s Children’s Hospital in Temple.

Witnesses said the two were sitting outside their residence when a car pulled up and opened fire. Several vehicles sustained damage as did the residence but no other injuries were reported.

The Killeen Police Department Violent Crime Unit is still investigating the incident.

This shooting follows a Labor Day weekend that saw three people killed in separate shootings in Killeen bringing the homicide count to 12 for the year. The Killeen Daily Herald reports that there were 31 homicides in Killeen in 2020, which is a all time high.

Killeen is no stranger to violent crime. According to Neighborhood Scout, your chance of being involved in a violent crime like armed robbery, aggravated assault, rape or murder in Killeen is 1 in 260. Property crime is 1 in 44. The report states that "Killeen has a crime rate that is higher than 82% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes."
