Juvenile Who Died in Shootout With Killeen Police Identified
The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of a juvenile robbery suspect who was fatally wounded during a shootout with Killeen police on Monday, April 24.
DPS Sergeant David Roberts identified 15-year-old Daezion Turner as the suspect Saturday, according to our news partner, KWTX.
Kathleen Serie and Crystal Rosado with KWTX report that the Texas Rangers continue to investigate the shooting, but Roberts decided to release Turner's name after discussion with the Bell County District Attorney's Office and the Killeen Police Department.
Around 4:15 PM Monday, April 24, three officers responding to a report of at the T-Mobile store at 3207 E Central Texas Expy say they were confronted by Turner as he was exiting the store. Turner reportedly fled on foot, then turned and began firing a gun at the officers. They returned fire, fatally wounding the teen.
Turner was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 6 PM. KWTX reports that one officer was transported to a local hospital with injuries unrelated to the shooting.
