A Central Texas town has no police force after two weeks of resignations has left the city without any officers.

Our partners at KWTX report that Mart Police Chief Paul Cardenas worked out a deal with the city council to move on from his role as chief of police Tuesday morning.

Cardenas' departure marks the last of five officers to turn in their badges over the last two weeks. Reports are that Cardenas came under fire after a member of the Mart community said that Cardenas released information about her that put her life in danger. Cardenas denied these reports in a meeting that took place last week.

A resident of Mart told News 10 that she's disgusted that the town doesn't have a police force right now. Residents are understandably concerned and upset, and McLennan County Sheriff's Office deputies will be patrolling until new officers are hired.
