Former Justice of the Peace Eric Williams and wife Kim have been accused of capital murder in connection to the shooting deaths of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia, as well as the murder of Assistant DA Mark Hasse.

A grand jury convened last week to hear preliminary testimony in the case that had Texas law enforcement personnel on edge for months. Forensic evidence is still being processed, but Texas law requires that a defendant have an indictment presented against them in a timely manner if they’re to be held for a particular charge. Prosecutors feel there is sufficient probable cause in the case.

Kim Williams identified her husband as the killer after her arrest on April 17 of this year. She also implicated her husband as the gunman. Prosecutors believe the murders stemmed from McLelland and Hasse’s successful 2012 prosecution of Williams on charges of stealing computer equipment from a government building.
