Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse was gunned down Thursday morning outside the courthouse where he worked.

Witnesses say two men dressed in black clothes, masks and vests approached the courthouse in a dark, late model Ford and fired several times, killing Mr. Hasse. Kaufman Police continue to investigate with assistance from the Kaufman County Sherriff’s Department and state and federal agencies, including the ATF. Law enforcement agencies throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area are also on the lookout for any suspects.

The motive for the violent attack, which occurred at around 8:50AM Thursday morning, is still unclear. Investigators are looking into the felony cases Mark Hasse was handling at the time he was killed. Mr. Hasse is said to have been handling a misdemeanor case at the time the incident occurred.
