Former Texas A&M and Miami Dolphins linebacker Antonio Donnell Armstrong and his wife Dawn died at their home in Houston after being shot allegedly by their 16-year-old son at 2:15 am on Friday.

Armstrong's son has been arrested and charged with the crime, according to police. He is being held at a juvenile facility.  Authorities say it was the son who called 911 to report the killing.

Armstrong, a linebacker from Houston's Kashmere High School, lettered for the Aggies from 1991-94 and was a two-time All-Southwest Conference selection. He was named an AP All-American during the 1994 season before turning pro.

R.C. Slocum, Armstrong's head coach at Texas A&M  said this in a statement:

Antonio was a special young man. He was an All-American and an outstanding player, but he was an even better person. He was such a positive influence on his teammates. He always had a great big smile and was a joy to coach.
