The aftermath of Winter Storm Uri is still hitting Texans, and U.S. President Joe Biden, along with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, are planning to make a trip to help.

According to a press briefing from the White House, President Biden and first lady. Dr Jill Biden will travel down to Houston on Friday, February 26. This will be President Biden's first trip to Texas since becoming the 46th President to take office.

Texas is working towards recovery after winter storm Uri ravaged the state last week.

“The president will meet with local leaders to discuss the winter storm, relief efforts, progress toward recovery and the incredible resilience shown by the people of Houston and Texas,” Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

On Friday, President Biden approved the Texas Disaster Declaration. The disaster relief effort "ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe winter storms."

FEMA announced that Texas homeowners and renters in 108 counties who suffered damage from the winter storm may now apply for individual disaster assistance.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Federal funding is also available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency protective measures and hazard mitigation measures statewide.

While in Texas, the President will also visit a COVID health center where vaccines are being distributed.
