Samsung's Taylor, Texas Plant to Create Thousands of Great Jobs

Samsung is about to bring even more jobs to the Lone Star State by building a chip manufacturing facility in Taylor, Texas. How many jobs? Well, how about 2,000 high-tech jobs and more than 6,5000 construction jobs?

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced at a press conference in Austin Tuesday, Nov. 23 that Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd. will build a new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor.

According to a press release form the Governors office, it's estimated to be about a $17 billion investment from Samsung which would make it the largest foreign direct investment in Texas history.

The new facility is expected to start construction in early 2022 and be complete in the second half of 2024 and include buildings, property improvements, machinery, and equipment.

The new facility will produce advanced logic chips for use in mobile, 5G, high-performance computing, and artificial intelligence.

Governor Abbott said in the press release,

"Companies like Samsung continue to invest in Texas because of our world-class business climate and exceptional workforce. Samsung's new semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor will bring countless opportunities for hardworking Central Texans and their families and will play a major role in our state's continued exceptionalism in the semiconductor industry. I look forward to expanding our partnership to keep the Lone Star State a leader in advanced technology and a dynamic economic powerhouse."

Samsung is just one of many big businesses to make plans to come to the Central Texas area. According to Do512, several of the biggest companies in the world have plans to expand to Texas.

You may already know that Elon Musk has said he is moving his Tesla headquarters to Austin and that his SpaceX company is also building a “new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility” in Texas' capitol, but Google also has plans to invest $50 billion to build office spaces and data center sites.

Amazon is building a 3.8 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Pflugerville that will also bring 1,000 jobs to the area. Plus, Apple is planning on moving their $1 billion campus to North Austin in 2022.

Facebook, Canva, and Oracle all have announced plans to add locations in the Austin area.

Top 20 Restaurants Central Texans Wish Would Come to Temple

A while back, I asked the good people of Temple if they could picture a good restaurant to fill the lot on North General Bruce Drive where the soon to be torn down Long John Silver's stood.

This was before it was announced that a Dutch Bros. Coffee location would open there (which was one of the places I predicted as a contender in our article).

So now Dutch Bros. is open in that spot, but the responses to my survey were interesting because they paint a picture of just how diverse Temple's population is. People recommended some familiar restaurants with locations in the surrounding area, but also a few I'd never even heard of.
