‘SNL’ Taps J.K. Simmons as Final Host of January
J. K. Simmons has been giving us ‘Whiplash’ for decades now with head-turning performances in everything from ‘Spider-Man’ to ‘The Legend of Korra,’ but with the ‘Kong: Skull Island’ star finally nominated for an Oscar, that most hallowed of New York institutions will give Simmons his due. J.K. will host the final January ‘SNL’ installment of 2015, no “jk” about it.
Simmons will host ‘SNL’ for the first time on January 31, alongside musical guest D’Angelo. Interestingly, Simmons actually appeared on ‘SNL’ in 1999 as his HBO ‘Oz’ character Vernon Schillinger, guesting in a pre-taped segment that saw Jerry Seinfeld sent to the titular prison after the ‘Seinfeld’ series finale.
With Kevin Hart and Sia’s 2015 ‘SNL’ debut behind us, this coming Saturday will see ‘The Voice’ coach Blake Shelton pulling double duty, both making his Studio 8H debut as host, and acting as the musical guest.
‘Whiplash’ parodies not withstanding, what would you like to see from J.K. Simmons’ first ‘SNL’ hosting on January 31? Will J. Jonah Jameson return to brief us on the sorry state of ‘Spider-Man’ films? Hit the comments with your own ideas, but don’t expect a “Good Job!”
