Stolen Ambulance Chased From Austin to Killeen Police Station
UPDATE: Police have identified David Oliver III of San Antonio as the suspect in this case. He was booked into the Bell County Jail at 12:23 PM on Saturday, December 3, and charged with evading arrest and another, unlisted third degree felony.
An ambulance stolen from an Austin hospital was chased through several cities before coming to a stop behind the Killeen Police Department Saturday morning.
The vehicle was reported stolen from Austin’s University Medical Center Brackenridge shortly before 10 AM.
KVUE-TV reports that the emergency responders assigned to the ambulance were taking a patient into the medical center when they received word that the vehicle was gone. It left Austin shortly after 10 AM traveling north along Highway 183. At 11:44 AM, the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services posted a message to Twitter indicating that the chase had ended and the ambulance was recovered.
KXXV-TV reports that the ambulance came to a stop behind the Killeen Police Department headquarters at 402 North 2nd Street.
No injuries have been reported. The driver is expected to undergo a mental evaluation. Police have not released the suspect’s name or motive for stealing the vehicle.
