A suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosive on Friday outside the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey.

The blast killed a guard at the embassy’s gate and wounded a nearby Turkish citizen, according to U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardione. The blast occurred at the side entrance of the embassy inside a security checkpoint, not inside the embassy itself. There was superficial damage to the embassy building, however, as well as to nearby businesses.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack so far. Turkey has seen an increase in attacks from Kurdish rebels in the country over the past year, and it is currently sheltering thousands of Syrian refugees as it continues to criticize Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime.
