Following Donald Trump's rhetorical lead, Texas Republicans are doing their best to rile up the Chinese government by meeting with Tsai Ing-wen, the President of Taiwan last week.

For those not in the know geo-politically, Taiwan on the Island of Formosa operates independently of Communist Mainland China. It's the remnants of the Nationalist government of Chiang Kai-Shek, which ran all of China before being pushed off the mainland by Mao Tse-Tung's Communists in 1949. The Mainland claims it owns Taiwan while the Taiwanese purport to be the real government of all of China. It's a culture that places a premium on not losing face.

I wouldn't put it past Texas to do this just to rile up the Mainland.  Also, the free economy of the Taiwanese state is closer to our own. Supporting them is supporting our own kind of government.

John F. Kennedy spoke of bearing any burden and finding any foe in the defense of liberty. Here's to more from the Taiwanese-Texas connection.
