It hasn’t been a secret that law enforcement and the community had experienced more than a little  tension. It's been so sharp that you could cut it with a knife.

Police officers aren’t always bad, and citizens are aren’t always good. Sometimes no can take the blame for the evils of this world.

I realize raising a son in Central Texas and teaching him that all people are not good people, and there are some cops that aren’t good either. It's a real tough conversation a mother has to have with her son.

But for the law enforcement who are here to serve and protect and put their lives on the line every day for not only my family but their own family, I want you to know that you are truly appreciated and looked up at as a role model by kids in all types of communities.

That's why I think this Coffee with a Cop event is a great idea.

The point of it is to get rid of this divide between the community and police officers. It's a chance for community members and cops to just sit down, enjoy a cup of joe, and truly discuss community issues from the perspective of both parties.

This much needed event will take place Wednesday, October 6 at Bite the Bagel Café in Killeen,  27 S. Clear Creek Rd. Suite 101 from 7 AM to 9 AM.

If you’ve ever felt like you weren’t heard by police officers, or you just want to chat about the issues facing our community, here’s a time to come up and speak on neutral grounds.

At the end of the day, we should all remember that we all want the same thing for our community, which is is a safe place for our loved ones.
