Federal marshals have arrested a man accused of stabbing an 11-year-old Houston boy to death as he was walking home from school.

31-year-old Che Lajuan Calhoun was arrested Wednesday afternoon in southeast Houston. Calhoun has been charged with murder in the death of 11-year-old Josue Flores, a 6th-grader at Houston's Marshall Middle School.

Flores was reportedly walking home from school late Tuesday afternoon when Calhoun allegedly stabbed him several times, then fled.

Flores was rushed to a hospital, where he later passed away. Flores' sister told KHOU-TV the boy didn't have any valuables in his possession, and community members and police are baffled as to why Calhoun attacked the child.

Family members say Flores was a straight-A student who dreamed of becoming a doctor. His family says they're trying to curb their anger because that's what young Flores would have wanted.

"[M]y little brother wasn't about that," Flores' sister, Guadalupe told KTRK-TV. "He was about caring and loving and sharing, and I know if he were here, he wouldn't have held anything against him."

According to KHOU, community members say Calhoun, who goes by the nickname "Detroit", was homeless, addicted to drugs, and had a history of violence. Investigators ordered a psychological evaluation of Calhoun before questioning him.
