Texas Guard Diagnosed With Leukemia
University of Texas Head Coach Shaka Smart was already quite downed when his leading scorer, Andrew Jones, was out of commission with a broken wrist.
Jones came back sparring after the wrist injury, but complained of having very little energy. Jones underwent tests, and the results were not great.
KWTX reports that Jones has been diagnosed with Leukemia, and has already began treatment. As one can imagine, this was devastating news to the University of Texas community.
The Longhorns learned of the diagnosis before their game against #16 ranked TCU, and rallied together to get a win in an epic double overtime thriller. Texas beat TCU 99-98, and dedicated the game to Jones. His jersey was draped across his seat on the bench, and Texas also got AJ1 patches on their jerseys to commemorate Jones and his number 1 jersey.
This has really put a whirlwind in Jones' life, as he almost considered declaring for the draft last year after just his freshman run at Texas. The Jones family has asked for privacy during this time, but prayers are welcomed and encouraged.
