Lawmakers in Texas are hoping to add another holiday to the calendar. How does "Selena Quintanilla Perez Day" sound?

House Bill 2492 is hoping to designate April 16th as the new holiday according to media outlets in the state.

Rep Ana-Maria Ramos (D-102) said, "April 16 is Selena Quintanilla Perez Day in memory of the contributions to Tejano music of Selena Quintanilla Perez, an award-winning singer, and recording artist. Selena Quintanilla Perez Day may be regularly observed by appropriate ceremonies and activities."

Up next, like with any bill, several rounds of voting will be required to make Selena day a real holiday. It will start off in the House, then to the Senate, and then the Governor.

In 2017, Selena was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Selena was murdered in San Antonio on March 31st, 1995.
