Texas Mom Leaves 4 Year Old Home Alone In Horrible Conditions

When I hear of parents abandoning their children or harming them in any way, it always makes me say to myself "These kids did not ask to be here". Police say a woman from Odessa, Texas left her four-year-old daughter unattended for hours back in March, and all I can do is shake my head.

What Happened?

According to yourbasin.com April Nicole Chandler's four-year-old daughter was wandering around a residential property when an unknown man found her and brought her to the leasing office.

The arrest affidavit says the leasing office employee recognized the girl from previous run-ins with Chandler, saying the kid has been left alone on other occasions.

What Did The Young Girl Say To Police?

According to an affidavit, police asked the girl simple, age-appropriate questions and the girl said she was left alone “a long time ago” and that she had been left alone before.

Police also say the child says there wasn’t much food in the apartment and that she had fallen and hit her head when she left. Officers say the four-year-old didn’t know the number for 911.

What Did Officers Find At The Girl's House?

According to the affidavit, officers found the door of the girl's apartment, which had no adults in it. They say it was messy with dog feces scattered around.

Where Are The Child's Parents?

Chandler’s car was reportedly impounded after she was pulled over leaving a hotel that is a "well-known drug location".

Here's where it gets weird. Chandler wasn't in the car when it was found - two other women were. They told police Nicole rented her vehicle to them for $20 while she was at another location using drugs.

The father of the four-year-old reportedly told police he has his daughter 90% of the time and left the child with her mother because he couldn't find a babysitter when he had to work.

Where Is The Mother?

According to yourbasin.com, a warrant was issued for the mother's arrest and she was taken into custody Wednesday, April 6th. Ector County Jail records showed she remained in custody Thursday with bonds totaling 10,000.

Here's My Opinion

I'm on the fence with my opinion. If the father knew the mother was on drugs and he had custody of the girl the majority of the time, why would he leave the girl with her?

On the other hand he had to work, and with no babysitter, does he just not go to work that day?
