3.6 Tons of Marijuana Seized at Laredo Border Crossing
As someone who can barely close his suit case after packing for a trip, I find the image above both fascinating and infuriating.
What you're seeing are packages containing 3.636 tons (7,272 pounds) of marijuana found hidden in a trailer crossing the World Trade Bridge in Laredo last Tuesday.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the 768 packages were discovered as agents searched a 2019 Freightliner tractor hauling synthetic rubber. The hidden cargo was all-natural pot with an estimated street value of $1.4 million.
The case has been turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
Yes, drug smuggling is wrong, but there's a part of me that has to admire the ingenuity and creativity of the people charged with packing and concealing tons of drugs into tight spaces. Sure it was unsuccessful in this case, but there must be countless other vehicles that make it through without raising a whiff of suspicion.
If these guys ever lose their cartel jobs (and aren't "disappeared" by their bosses), they have bright futures in making YouTube tutorials on how to manage your space.
