Walmart is saying "thank you" to all of its employees by closing all U.S. stores for Thanksgiving Day, which is November 25 this year.

Walmart made the announcement on Friday, June 4th.

In a news release from the retail giant, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Walmart U.S., Dacona Smith, wrote, “Throughout the pandemic, our associates have been nothing short of heroic in how they have stepped up to serve our customers and their communities. Closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day is one way we’re saying ‘thank you’ to our teams for their dedication and hard work this year. We hope everyone will take the opportunity to be with their loved ones during what’s always a special time.”

This is the second year in a row that Walmart has made the decision to close for Thanksgiving.

Lots of the big box stores have made that move over the last couple of years, choosing to close on Thanksgiving Day but reopening early for Black Friday deals. Walmart says they will announce store opening times “at a later date.”

USA Today reported that Target announced in February that it would be closed for Thanksgiving Day.

It'll be interesting to see how the pandemic affects the normal rush of Black Friday shopping. Online sales with delivery and curbside pickups are the growing trend since 2020.

In fact, HEB announced last month that they would no longer charge a fee for most curbside pickup orders.

Many shoppers have turned to delivery for the convenience and safest way to show. No person to person contact can mean a safer cleaner shopping experience.

It's become a way of life for most. Welcome to the new normal.
