WOW! Gas is Near $3 a Gallon In Killeen. Have You Noticed?
Have you been noticing that gas has been expensive these days?
No, like more expensive than usual.
The Killeen Daily Herald reports that gas is now $3 in Killeen - $1.24 more than it was this time last year!
According to AAA, the Texas statewide average for gas is $3.08, which $1.29 higher than a year ago.
But Why Is Gas So High?
The demand.
“With more people traveling and returning to the office, demand for fuel is on the rise," said AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster. "Factor in surging crude oil prices due to OPEC+ forgoing further production increases and we’re seeing a trend that we’re not used to seeing."
According to WFAA, President Biden and his Administration back in August asked the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to restore the global supply.
Basically, the price of gas is high because the price of crude oil is also up. That cost accounts for 50% to 60% the price at the pump according to the AAA.
Keep in mind that there were fewer people on the road last year due to the pandemic.
Back to Central Texas
The website GasBuddy.com reported a few gas stations' prices in Central Texas, such as the 7-Eleven Exxon at 2411 East Business Highway 190, which shows gas is 2.86 per gallon.
Another location, the Sam’s Club in Harker Heights on Central Texas Expressway, had gas at $2.80 per gallon as of Saturday.
Meanwhile, gas at the Walmart on Stan Schleuter in Killeen was $2.83 per gallon - the cheapest.
