‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Ditches Anna Paquin’s Rogue
'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is so stuffed full of mutants -- both new and old -- that it seemed inevitable that something had to give. It turns out that Anna Paquin's role as Rogue is the first to go, as her sequence has been cut from the movie.
Director Bryan Singer revealed this to EW, saying that the rescue sequence she was in -- which also involved the older versions of Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) -- was shot but “through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous.” Singer adds that he thinks the scene will eventually wind up as an extra on the home video release of the film.
This is rough but not unexpected, as the film has to navigate time travel and integrate the cast from the first three films with the new versions from 'X-Men: First Class.' Singer adds that Paquin, who is about to finish out her run on HBO's 'True Blood,' has been told and completely understands. The film recently went through a round of reshoots that helped make the film the second most expensive film 20th Century Fox has made (behind 'Avatar'), but is still on course for a May 23, 2014 release sans Rogue.
