A recent rash of thefts by "porch pirates" has prompted police and local officials here in Bell County to urge citizens not to have packages delivered and left at the front door. With the holiday season upon us, this problem could escalate.

So where is one supposed to have packages delivered? One place Police suggested was work. Depending on what you order or whether or not your workplace is full of looky-loos who are always getting in your business (you know the type), that may or may not be a good idea.

Amazon.com to the rescue!

This past weekend, I pulled into Stripes/Sunoco on West Adams at Kegley. After picking up my Clif Bar and Iced Tea, I was walking back to my car when I noticed something under the ATM sign that was not an ATM at all.

My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. It was an Amazon Locker!

Called "Amazon's Secret Weapon," It's a great way to keep your packages out of the hands of thieves.

As Wikipedia puts it, "Amazon customers can select any Locker location as their delivery address, and retrieve their orders at that location by entering a unique pick-up code on the Locker touch screen.[2][3]"

That Amazon would put these lockers in this area is a great example of customer service. It also cuts down on postal costs and attracts people to its location. Stripes must love that.

I'm not a violent person but when I see some jerk taking stuff that other folks worked hard to earn and purchase, I want to find that thief and toss the perp in a dumpster. Thank you Amazon for helping beat the thieves.

The four Bell County Amazon lockers are located at:

Temple:

  • Stripes/Sunoco Gas Station - 5001 S 31st St
  • Stripes/Sunoco Gas Station - 5511 W Adams Ave

Killeen:

  • Stripes/Sunoco Gas Station - 2210 E Stan Schleuter Loop
  • Stripes/Sunoco Gas Station - 8089 W Trimmier Rd
