Amish, Mennonites Volunteering to Rebuild after Hurricane Harvey
The leader of a Hurricane Harvey relief group says around 600 Amish and Mennonite men and women have traveled to Texas over the past five months to help rebuild and repair homes along the Gulf Coast. Their efforts have been saving individual homeowners an average of $2,000.
The carpenters and cabinet makers are basically working for room and board, and some of them have been part of the rebuilding efforts for the last six months. Amish and Mennonite volunteers have come to Texas from almost every state and have managed to repair and rebuild around 120 homes.
Cypress United Methodist has been coordinating the volunteer efforts. If you know a family who still needs help rebuilding, or if you would like to donate to the cause, you can find more info at www.cypressunited.org.
