The Temple Daily Telegram reports that
The 18-year-old student is looking at $80,000 dollars in bonds for the third-degree felony charge. Cartha Martel was still being held in the Bell County Jail at last check.
The assault happened back on August 29th when the campus security officer responded to a call about a disturbance and arrived to find another security officer who explained a student referred to as "Speed" had assaulted him. The first officer on the scene said they witnessed Martel cursing at a teacher before getting involved.
The security officer told the school they wish to press charges for the assault. Belton Independent School District Deputy Chief Superintendent Dr. Robert Muller said they are working with police and will apply the student code of conduct as appropriate.
