Belton’s First Mayor, Jim Covington, Passes Away at Age 74
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the city of Belton, Texas, and the family of Jim Covington who passed away at the age of 74 on Wednesday evening.
Covington was the first elected mayor of Belton. He passed away due to health complications according to the Temple Daily Telegram.
He was first elected to the Belton City Council in 1995 and served this city as its mayor from 2006 to 2014. He left behind his wife Terri and their two sons Barrett and Dave.
The memorial service is set for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26th, at the First Baptist Church in Belton at 506 N. Main Street. The visitation will start at 2 p.m. Jim donated his remains to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
