Bus Driver Saves Family’s Home From Fire in Copperas Cove
It was about lunch time last Thursday when one Copperas Cove man saved a family's home from a grass fire.
Raymond Riddle is a maintenance employee for the city of Cove, but last week when the city was short on school bus drivers, he volunteered. While driving his route, Raymond approached a grass fire he saw spreading in a yard at 2103/2105 Scott Drive.
Raymond pulled his bus over and made sure his passengers stayed with the bus aide while he warned neighbors of the spreading grass fire. Riddle grabbed the fire extinguisher on board his bus and began putting out the grass fire before it could get to the house.
The handful of students on the bus ranged between 3 and 4 years of age according to KCENTV. The kids called Mr. Riddle a hero.
The Copperas Cove Fire Department plans to recognize Riddle coming up at the next school's next board meeting. Passengers on Riddle's bus go to school at Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy.
