Early numbers are in and they show that the 30th annual Food for Families drive is the largest one yet.

The numbers show that about 2,318,361 pounds of food was raised, exceeding last year's record total of 2,221,369 pounds.

Food for Families is the largest one day food drive that helps food banks to get through the holiday season. Every year, volunteers from the Boy Scouts, H.E.B. Grocery Company, KWTX News 10, and several other businesses, organizations, and schools contribute resources to the drive, along with dozens of individuals that donate their time.

This large support from the community is the reason the food drive can continue to run every year and feed thousands of people across Central Texas. All food collected will go to feeding the 9 individual counties that participated in the drive.

Food for Families was started in 1990 by KWTX News 10, bring in 84,435 pounds of food their first year. Since then, the drive has gained more support and sponsors to help Food for Families grow year after year.

Thank you to all that contributed to this drive! It truly makes me feel proud to be a Central Texan when I hear news like this, and hopefully it will inspire others to join our cause and make the 2020 Food for Families the largest food drive.
