Every so often, we'll get messages from people around the globe who managed to pick up KTEM on their radio or who want to share memories of when they lived in Central Texas and were faithful listeners.

Many ask us if we can send them something (which is fine - I'm a collector myself), but Shirley Strauss of Ocala, Florida recently shared something with us.

Shirley reached out on Facebook late last week and said she'd found a T.V. Weekly and KTEM Radio Log from January of 1965. She was kind enough to mail it to us, and the postman dropped it off Tuesday afternoon.

Shirley lived in Temple at the time while her husband was stationed at Fort Hood. We chatted a bit about the pamphlet and how surprised some of our younger employees were to discover there were only three TV channels back then. Looking at the hundreds of channels and dozens of streaming services tearing our attention spans apart these days almost makes you long for that simplicity.

I scanned the pages of the pamphlet, which you can check out below. Many items caught my eye, but what I want to know is what was the Platter Party? It's listed in the Sunday column at 6:35 PM. Was it an hour of 'The Platters'? The Twin Peaks fan in me is dying to know!

Shirley's hope - which I share - is that this find could encourage other KTEM listeners to share their memories and any classic artifacts they may have.

You don't have to send them to us if you'd like to hold on to them, but we'd love to see pictures or scans if you feel like sharing. If you ever would like to mail us something, our address is 608 Moody Lane, Temple, TX, 76504. If you'd like to scan or photograph something and send it our way, you can use the form at the bottom of this page.

I want to express my sincerest thanks to Shirley and her husband for their generosity and assure her that this cool little piece of Temple history will be cherished and taken care of.

By the way, if you're no longer in Central Texas or you plan on moving, you can take KTEM with you anywhere in the world with our free mobile app or by clicking listen live here on the website. We also have a free Amazon Alexa skill, and our app is Chromecast enabled. We'd love to be a little piece of home you take with you.
