David’s Supermarket in Hamilton is closed after strong thunderstorms swept through Central Texas Saturday night, bringing with them high winds that tore the roof off the store while shoppers were inside.

A severe storm passed through Hamilton, just west of Waco, around 8 p.m. Saturday night. Though there were some reports of hail and blown down branches, no serious damage was reported except for the incident involving David’s. Hamilton County sheriff’s office has not confirmed any injuries, but emergency personal were called to the scene and local firefighters were there to monitor the structure through the night.

Loyal David’s employees are helping with the cleanup which, sadly, involved throwing away many perishable items ruined by the storm damage. David’s Supermarket is estimated to reopen its doors in 6 to 8 weeks.
