KWTX's Rissa Shaw reported that the city of Hewitt recognized the Midway High football team for the outstanding season they had this year.

Mayor Travis Bailey of Hewitt recognized the team during the first city council meeting of the year. Bailey recognized January 15, 2018 as Midway Panther Football Team Day in Hewitt.

The young men of the Midway High football team reached the 6A Division II State Championship game in their second year as Jell Hulme as their head coach.

The state championship game was their only loss of the season, where they fell to Cy-Fair High School 51-35. Even with the loss, the Panthers recorded a school record in wins with 15.
