Coryell County Police Chase Ends in Crash
KWTX's Alex Cano reported that a police chase took place on Thursday in Coryell county that led to two people being sent to local hospitals with injuries.
Department of Public Safety Sargent David Roberts said, "Department of Public Safety troopers were advised at around 2 p.m. Thursday that a Coryell County sheriff’s deputy was chasing a vehicle on State Highway 36 whose driver would not pull over."
A driver of a 2008 Nissan Altima was heading east, took side back roads, and shortly returned back to Highway 36 in an attempt to evade the authorities. The driver took a turn south on FM 1114, and the crash came to an abrupt end around 2:15 p.m on Thursday.
The car struck a utility pole. that was located just north of County Road 356. The driver, was James Kelly, 53, of Clifton, Texas. Kelly was taken to Coryell Memorial Hospital by EMT's via ambulance, and was said to have non-incapcitating injuries.
The passenger in the vehicle, was identified as Shannon Newman, 50, of Clyde, Texas. Newman was sent to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, and is said to have injuries that are incapacitating.
