Our partners at KWTX News 10 are among several news outlets in Texas following an explosion that happened at the Exxon Mobil refinery in Baytown (25 miles east of Houston).

Plumes of smoke are headed into the air over the city of Houston as officials are using caution and asking residents who live West of the site to shelter in place as first responders deal with yet another fire in the petrochemical industrial area of Baytown that involves polypropylene material.

As a precaution, several schools in the area are sheltering in place and the public is being asked to close windows, turn off air conditioners, and to bring their pets indoors.

ABC13 and The Baytown Fire Department is reporting numerous minor injuries at the site of the explosion. As the story develops, we will keep an eye on the situation and continue to monitor our partners at KWTX News 10 as additional information becomes available.
